  • Author: Lana
  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Diet: Vegetarian

Description

Sweet, savory, and utterly addictive 5-ingredient crack green beans glazed with a buttery soy and brown sugar sauce. This easy side dish comes together in just 30 minutes using simple pantry staples, perfect for a quick and flavorful addition to any meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Green Beans

  • 1 (15-ounce) can green beans, drained very well

Glaze

  • 1/2 cup soy sauce (low-sodium works great)
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/4 cup real butter
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C) to prepare for baking the green beans.
  2. Drain Green Beans: Thoroughly drain the canned green beans by pressing gently with a spoon to remove as much liquid as possible, preventing a watery sauce.
  3. Prepare Glaze: In an 8×8 inch baking dish, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, butter, and garlic powder. Stir well until the mixture is evenly blended.
  4. Toss Green Beans: Add the drained green beans to the baking dish and toss them in the glaze until every bean is evenly coated. Spread them out evenly in a single layer.
  5. Bake: Bake uncovered for 20 to 25 minutes, stirring once halfway through. Bake until the sauce thickens into a glossy glaze and the edges of the beans appear caramelized.
  6. Season and Serve: Season with black pepper to taste, then serve immediately while warm and glazed.

Notes

  • Drain canned beans very well to avoid excess liquid which prevents the sauce from thickening properly.
  • For fresh green beans: trim and blanch 1 pound for 2 to 3 minutes before adding to the glaze, and reduce baking time slightly.
  • Stovetop method: combine all ingredients in a skillet over medium heat and cook 10 to 15 minutes, stirring occasionally, as an alternative to baking.
  • Add crumbled crispy bacon on top before serving for extra texture and a smoky flavor.
  • Low-sodium soy sauce works well to reduce overall saltiness without losing flavor.
