Description
A naturally sweet and fruity Apple Blueberry Sauce made with fresh apples, blueberries, and a touch of maple syrup. Perfect as a topping or side dish, this sauce is easy to prepare by simmering and blending fresh fruits to achieve a smooth consistency.
Ingredients
Scale
Fruits
- 8 small apples (cored, peeled, diced)
- 1 cup blueberries (fresh or frozen)
Other Ingredients
- 1 tbsp maple syrup
- 1/4 cup water (more for a thinner consistency or 1 tbsp if using frozen blueberries)
Instructions
- Prepare Apples: Peel the apples, remove their cores, and dice them into small pieces to ensure even cooking and a smooth blend.
- Combine Ingredients: Add the diced apples, blueberries, maple syrup, and water to a large pan. If using frozen blueberries, use 1 tablespoon of water instead of 1/4 cup, adding more as needed since the berries release liquid.
- Cook the Fruit: Bring the pan to a light boil, then reduce the heat to a very light simmer. Cook for 20 minutes, stirring occasionally until apples are tender and blueberries have mostly dissolved into liquid. If apples remain firm, continue cooking for an additional 3-5 minutes.
- Blend the Sauce: Allow the mixture to cool slightly, then transfer to a food processor or blender. Blend until smooth, adding more water to adjust consistency if the sauce is too thick.
Notes
- You can adjust the sweetness by varying the amount of maple syrup.
- Use fresh or frozen blueberries; frozen will require less water initially.
- This sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
- For a chunkier texture, blend for less time or mash with a fork instead of using a blender.
