Chicken Filling
- 2 chicken breasts, finely diced
- 2 tbsp hoisin sauce
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp minced fresh ginger
Coleslaw
- 1 (397g) bag coleslaw
- 4 green onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp rice vinegar
- 1 tbsp soy sauce
- 1 tbsp honey
Wonton Shells and Garnishes
- 16 wonton wrappers
- Sweet chili sauce, to serve
- Chopped cilantro, to serve
- Sesame seeds, to serve
- Cooking spray or olive/canola oil for brushing
Instructions
- Prepare Wonton Shells: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray or brush the wonton wrappers with cooking spray or olive/canola oil. Drape them over the sides of a 9×13-inch baking dish so they form cups. Bake for 7-8 minutes, watching carefully to avoid burning. Remove from oven and gently pull the cups apart while still pliable. Return to the oven and bake for an additional 7-8 minutes until the shells are crispy and golden.
- Cook Chicken Filling: In a large bowl, combine the finely diced chicken breasts with hoisin sauce, sesame oil, soy sauce, minced garlic, and fresh ginger. Heat a large skillet over high heat and sauté the chicken mixture for 7-8 minutes, tossing frequently, until the chicken is fully cooked through and slightly caramelized.
- Prepare Coleslaw: In another large bowl, mix the coleslaw bag contents with thinly sliced green onions, sesame oil, rice vinegar, soy sauce, and honey. Toss thoroughly to combine and let the flavors meld.
- Assemble Tacos: Fill each crispy wonton shell with a portion of the cooked chicken mixture. Top generously with the prepared coleslaw. Drizzle sweet chili sauce over the top and garnish with chopped cilantro and sesame seeds. Serve immediately and enjoy the perfect combination of crispy, savory, and fresh flavors.
Notes
- Watch the wonton shells closely while baking to prevent burning as they cook quickly in the oven.
- To ensure even cooking, dice chicken into small, uniform pieces.
- You can customize this recipe by adding shredded carrots or chopped bell peppers to the coleslaw for extra crunch and color.
- For a spicier kick, add a few dashes of sriracha or chili flakes to the chicken marinade or as a topping.
- These tacos are best eaten fresh to keep the wonton shells crispy.
