Ingredients
Scale
Batter
- 1/2 cup softened butter
- 2/3 cup granulated sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 3/4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup milk
- 2 large apples, peeled and chopped
Swirl Filling
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Glaze
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar
- 2 teaspoons milk
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease or line a 9×5-inch loaf pan to prevent sticking.
- Mix swirl filling: In a small bowl, combine the brown sugar and ground cinnamon. Set this mixture aside for layering later.
- Make batter base: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter with granulated sugar until the mixture is light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in vanilla extract to enhance flavor.
- Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and baking powder. Gradually add these dry ingredients alternately with milk to the wet mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients, mixing just until combined to avoid overmixing.
- Fold in apples: Gently fold the peeled and chopped apples into the batter, ensuring even distribution without breaking down the fruit.
- Layer batter and filling: Pour half of the batter into the prepared loaf pan and evenly sprinkle half of the cinnamon brown sugar swirl on top. Add the remaining batter and finish by sprinkling the rest of the swirl mixture over the top.
- Bake: Place the pan in the preheated oven and bake for about 55 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. This ensures the bread is fully cooked inside.
- Prepare glaze: While the bread cools, mix powdered sugar with milk to create a smooth glaze. Drizzle this glaze over the cooled bread for a sweet finishing touch.
Notes
- Make sure apples are peeled and chopped into small pieces for better texture and even baking.
- The swirl mixture can be adjusted with more or less cinnamon according to your taste preference.
- Allow the bread to cool completely before glazing to prevent the glaze from melting off.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or refrigerate for up to a week.
- To intensify apple flavor, consider sautéing apples lightly with a bit of butter and cinnamon before folding them into the batter.
