Ingredients
Scale
Cheese
- 1 round of Brie cheese (about 8 ounces)
Fillings & Toppings
- 1/4 cup fig jam
- Fresh thyme leaves, for garnish (optional)
Pastry & Wash
- 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Serving
- Toasted baguette slices or crackers, for serving
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for baking the Brie wrapped in puff pastry.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the sheet of thawed puff pastry to smooth out any creases and create an even surface for wrapping.
- Place Brie on Pastry: Center the round of Brie cheese on the rolled-out puff pastry sheet, ensuring it’s well positioned for wrapping.
- Add Fig Jam: Spread the fig jam generously over the top of the Brie, making an even layer to infuse sweetness into the cheese as it bakes.
- Wrap the Brie: Carefully bring the edges of the puff pastry over the Brie, folding and sealing it gently until the cheese is completely encased.
- Seal & Trim: Trim any extra pastry to avoid excess bulk and pinch seams firmly to secure the wrapping and prevent leaks.
- Prepare for Baking: Place the wrapped Brie seam-side down on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper for easy cleanup and optimal heat distribution.
- Brush with Egg Wash: Brush the entire surface of the puff pastry with the beaten egg to give the pastry a beautiful golden-brown color once baked.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden brown, indicating the Brie inside is warmed and melted.
- Cool Slightly: Remove from the oven and allow the baked Brie to rest for a few minutes to set slightly, making it easier to cut and serve.
- Garnish: Optionally garnish the baked Brie with fresh thyme leaves to add a touch of color and herbal aroma.
- Serve: Serve the warm baked Brie alongside toasted baguette slices or crackers to dip into the melted cheese and fig jam combination.
Notes
- Make sure the Brie is fully encased in the puff pastry to prevent leakage during baking.
- If puff pastry begins to brown too quickly, cover loosely with foil to avoid burning.
- Letting the Brie cool slightly helps avoid burning your mouth when eating.
- Fresh thyme garnish is optional but adds a lovely herbal note and visual appeal.
- Pair with a light white wine or sparkling wine for an elegant appetizer experience.
