Ingredients

Scale

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup low-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1/3 cup beef broth
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 1/8 teaspoon cracked red pepper flakes

Main Ingredients

  • 2 (3 ounce) packages ramen noodles, seasoning packets discarded
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, divided
  • 1 pound sirloin steak, trimmed of fat and sliced into 1 1/2-inch strips (about 1/4-inch thickness)
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 3 cups fresh broccoli florets
  • 1/2 cup water
  • Sesame seeds, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Make the sauce: In a medium bowl, whisk together the soy sauce and cornstarch until combined with no lumps. Add beef broth, honey, hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, sesame oil, minced garlic, grated ginger, and cracked red pepper flakes. Whisk thoroughly to combine and set aside.
  2. Cook the ramen noodles: Bring a medium pot of water to a boil. Add ramen noodles and cook until just tender, about 2-3 minutes. Drain and rinse under cold water immediately to prevent further cooking. Drizzle with 1 teaspoon sesame oil to prevent sticking and set aside.
  3. Cook the steak: Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until hot and shimmering. Season the sirloin strips with kosher salt and ground black pepper. Add to the skillet and cook undisturbed for about 3 minutes to achieve good browning on one side. Stir and continue cooking for another 2 minutes until steak is cooked through. Remove steak from skillet and discard excess grease.
  4. Steam the broccoli: Add the remaining 1 tablespoon of olive oil to the skillet, then add broccoli florets. Pour in 1/2 cup water and cover the skillet. Steam broccoli for 2 minutes, until bright green and fork-tender but still crisp.
  5. Combine ingredients: Return cooked steak to the skillet along with the drained ramen noodles.
  6. Add the sauce: Stir the prepared sauce and pour it evenly over the skillet contents. Using tongs, toss everything together to coat evenly with sauce. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens slightly and ingredients are heated through.
  7. Serve: Plate the beef and broccoli ramen stir fry immediately, garnished with a sprinkle of sesame seeds for added texture and flavor.

Notes

  • Be sure not to overcook the broccoli; it should retain a slight crunch for the best texture.
  • Using low-sodium soy sauce helps control the saltiness of the dish, but adjust to taste if needed.
  • Discard the ramen seasoning packets as they contain unnecessary additives and salt.
  • For a spicier version, increase the cracked red pepper flakes according to preference.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated in an airtight container for up to 3 days and reheated gently on the stove.
