Ingredients
Scale
Tea Base
- 4 cups Water
- 3 tbsp Fresh sage leaves
Fruit & Sweetener
- 1 cup Fresh or frozen blackberries
- 3 tbsp Maple syrup (adjust to taste)
- Juice of 1 lemon
Serving
- Ice cubes
- Optional for garnish: additional sage leaves or lemon slices
Instructions
- Steep the Sage: Bring the water to a simmer in a medium saucepan, then turn off the heat. Add the fresh sage leaves and steep for about 5 minutes to release their flavors into the water.
- Add and Mash Blackberries: Add the blackberries to the sage-infused water and return the mixture to a simmer. Remove from heat and gently mash the blackberries to release their juices and flavor. Stir in the maple syrup, adjusting the amount to suit your preferred sweetness level.
- Cool and Strain: Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature. Once cooled, strain the liquid through a fine mesh sieve into a pitcher, pressing on the solids to extract all the juices. Discard the solids.
- Add Lemon Juice: Stir in the freshly squeezed lemon juice to add a refreshing citrusy kick to the tea.
- Chill the Tea: Refrigerate the tea for at least 1-2 hours until it is thoroughly chilled and ready to serve.
- Serve: Fill glasses with ice cubes and pour the chilled tea over the ice. Optionally, add some blackberries to each glass and garnish with sage leaves and/or a slice of lemon for an elegant presentation. Enjoy your refreshing blackberry sage iced tea!
Notes
- Adjust the maple syrup according to your taste preference or substitute with honey or agave syrup.
- You can use fresh or frozen blackberries depending on availability.
- For a stronger sage flavor, increase the steeping time, but be careful as too much can be overpowering.
- If you prefer a smoother tea, strain the mixture twice to remove more solids.
- This tea can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Add sparkling water to make a fizzy version of this iced tea.
