Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 2 1/2 cups (315g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup (230g) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup (200g) granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup (100g) packed light brown sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons fresh orange zest (about 2 medium oranges)
- 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
Add-ins
- 1 cup white chocolate chips (or vanilla baking chips)
Instructions
- Prepare the Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set this mixture aside for later use.
- Cream the Butter and Sugars: In a large bowl, use an electric mixer to cream the softened butter, granulated sugar, and light brown sugar until the mixture is light, fluffy, and well combined, about 2 to 3 minutes.
- Add Flavor: Beat the eggs into the creamed butter and sugars one at a time. Then add the pure vanilla extract, fresh orange zest, and fresh orange juice, mixing until all ingredients are thoroughly combined.
- Combine and Add Chips: Gradually mix the dry ingredient mixture into the wet ingredients just until incorporated. Carefully fold in the white chocolate chips to evenly distribute them throughout the dough.
- Scoop and Bake: Preheat your oven to 175°C (350°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Using a cookie scoop or a tablespoon, drop portions of dough about 2 inches apart on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 9 to 11 minutes, or until the cookie edges are set and the centers appear slightly soft. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- Use freshly grated orange zest for the brightest, most vibrant citrus flavor.
- Do not overbake the cookies; the centers should look slightly underdone when removed from the oven as they will firm up while cooling.
- For thicker cookies, chill the dough in the refrigerator for 30 minutes before baking.
