Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 medium head cabbage
- 1/2 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper (or to taste)
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
- 1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley
- 4 lemon wedges
Instructions
- Prepare the Cabbage: Rinse the cabbage thoroughly under running water. Remove any visibly damaged or wilted outer leaves. Cut the cabbage into 6 wedges for even cooking.
- Boil Water: Pour about 1/2 to 1 inch of lightly salted water into a large deep skillet or Dutch oven and bring it to a boil over medium-high heat.
- Cook the Cabbage: Add the cabbage wedges along with 1/2 teaspoon of salt to the boiling water. Cover the pan and simmer over medium heat for 8 to 10 minutes.
- Turn and Continue Cooking: Carefully turn the cabbage wedges to the other side to ensure even cooking. Cover and simmer for an additional 8 to 10 minutes, or until the cabbage is tender when pierced with a fork.
- Drain Water: Discard the cooking water from the pan. Return the pan to low heat and allow any remaining moisture to evaporate completely.
- Add Butter and Seasonings: Pour the melted butter over the cabbage and gently toss to coat all the wedges evenly with butter.
- Finish and Serve: Sprinkle with additional salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste. Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the cabbage, garnish with chopped parsley, and serve with lemon wedges on the side.
Notes
- Be careful when turning the cabbage to avoid breaking the wedges.
- Adjust seasoning quantities to your preference for salt and heat.
- For a vegan option, substitute butter with olive oil or a plant-based butter alternative.
- This dish pairs well with meats, poultry, or grilled vegetables.
- Leftover cabbage can be refrigerated and reheated gently.
