  • Author: Lana
  • Total Time: 3 hours 45 minutes
  • Yield: 6 people 1x

Description

Crockpot Swedish Meatballs is a comforting and easy slow cooker recipe using frozen meatballs simmered in a rich and creamy, spiced gravy. Perfectly paired with fluffy mashed potatoes or tender noodles, this dish is a convenient, hearty meal with classic Scandinavian flavors.

Ingredients

Scale

Meatballs

  • 1 (28 oz) bag frozen meatballs (pork/beef blend)

Gravy

  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 pint heavy cream
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried rosemary
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ teaspoon ground allspice
  • ½ teaspoon ground ginger
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup sour cream (room temperature)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Crockpot: Grease a 6 quart crockpot with cooking spray to prevent sticking and ensure easy cleanup.
  2. Make Gravy Base: In the crockpot, combine beef broth, heavy cream, soy sauce, all-purpose flour, black pepper, dried rosemary, ground nutmeg, ground allspice, ground ginger, and salt. Whisk these ingredients together until the mixture is smooth and free of lumps.
  3. Add Meatballs and Cook: Stir in the frozen meatballs, ensuring they are fully coated with the gravy mixture. Cover and cook on HIGH for 3 hours or on LOW for 6 hours to allow flavors to meld and meatballs to heat through.
  4. Finish Sauce: Remove the lid and whisk in the room temperature sour cream until the sauce becomes smooth and creamy. Cook uncovered for an additional 30 minutes to thicken the gravy slightly.
  5. Serve: Spoon meatballs and creamy gravy over fluffy mashed potatoes or your favorite noodles, and enjoy this warm, comforting meal.

Notes

  • For best results, use a 6 quart crockpot as recommended.
  • Make sure the sour cream is at room temperature before adding to prevent curdling in the hot gravy.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for 3-5 days and reheated in the microwave.
  • This recipe is easily doubled for larger gatherings.
  • If you prefer thicker gravy, extend the uncovered cooking time by 10-15 minutes.
