Ingredients
Scale
Donuts
- 1/4 cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1 scoop Chocolate Protein Powder
- 3/8 cup (92g) Liquid Egg Whites (or 2 whole egg whites)
- 1/2 cup (120g) Canned Pumpkin
- 2 Tbsp Swerve Confectioners (or other zero-calorie sweetener)
- 1 Tbsp (15g) Unsweetened Applesauce
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 3 Tbsp (15g) Unsweetened Cocoa Powder
Frosting/Glaze
- 1 serving (32g) Fat-Free Cream Cheese
- 1 Tbsp (15g) Sugar-Free Chocolate Syrup
- 1 scoop Chocolate Protein Powder
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly spray a donut pan with low-calorie cooking spray to ensure the donuts don’t stick.
- Mix donut batter: In a large mixing bowl, combine all the donut ingredients — all-purpose flour, chocolate protein powder, liquid egg whites, canned pumpkin, Swerve confectioners sweetener, unsweetened applesauce, baking powder, and unsweetened cocoa powder. Stir until the batter is smooth and uniform.
- Fill the donut pan: Evenly distribute the batter into the six sections of the prepared donut pan, filling each about 3/4 full to allow room for rising.
- Bake the donuts: Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until the donuts are firm to the touch and spring back lightly when pressed.
- Prepare the frosting: While the donuts bake, mix together the fat-free cream cheese (at room temperature), sugar-free chocolate syrup, and chocolate protein powder until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
- Cool the donuts: Remove the donuts from the oven and let them cool slightly so the frosting won’t melt when applied.
- Frost the donuts: Dip each donut face down into the frosting, twisting gently to ensure even coating, then lift and allow the frosting to set.
- Serve and enjoy: Your double chocolate protein donuts are ready to serve. Enjoy them fresh for the best taste and texture.
Notes
- You can substitute liquid egg whites with whole eggs if preferred, but liquid egg whites reduce fat and calories.
- Ensure the cream cheese is at room temperature for easier mixing of the frosting.
- If you don’t have a donut pan, use a muffin tin and adjust baking time accordingly.
- For a vegan alternative, consider using a plant-based protein powder and egg replacer, but results may vary.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
- Use zero-calorie sweeteners to keep this recipe low in sugars and calories.
