These Indulgent Salted Caramel Rice Krispie Treats combine the classic crispy texture of Rice Krispies with gooey marshmallows and rich caramel sauce, enhanced with a delightful mix of salty pretzels, nuts, and a chocolatey topping. Perfectly balanced with a touch of sea salt, they make a decadent and crunchy dessert loved by everyone.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 6 cups Rice Krispie cereal
  • 10 oz Mini marshmallows
  • 1 cup Caramel sauce (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1 tsp Sea salt
  • 1 cup Pretzel pieces
  • 1 cup Chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans)

Toppings and Flavorings

  • 1 cup Milk chocolate (for topping)
  • 2 tbsp Cocoa powder (to dust on top or mix in)

Instructions

  1. Prep the cereal: In a large mixing bowl, pour in the Rice Krispie cereal and set aside.
  2. Melt marshmallows and caramel: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, combine the mini marshmallows and caramel sauce. Stir continuously until completely melted and smooth, about 5 minutes, ensuring no lumps remain.
  3. Combine cereal and caramel mixture: Pour the melted marshmallow and caramel mixture over the Rice Krispie cereal. Gently fold and mix with a spatula until every piece is fully coated.
  4. Prepare the baking dish: Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish to prevent sticking. Transfer the coated cereal mixture into the dish and press down firmly and evenly to create a compact layer.
  5. Add toppings: Sprinkle pretzel pieces, chopped nuts, and sea salt evenly over the pressed mixture. Optionally, sprinkle cocoa powder for extra flavor.
  6. Melt and add chocolate topping: Melt the milk chocolate separately and drizzle or spread it over the treats for creamy sweetness.
  7. Set and slice: Allow the treats to cool completely at room temperature for about 30 minutes, letting them firm up. Once cooled, slice into squares for serving.

Notes

  • For easier cutting, refrigerate the treats after setting.
  • You can substitute caramel sauce with homemade caramel for a richer flavor.
  • Use wax paper to help press the mixture into the baking dish evenly.
  • Store treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.
  • For a nut-free version, omit chopped nuts and add extra pretzels.
