Italian Pinwheels Recipe

  • Author: Lana
  • Total Time: 1 hour 15 minutes
  • Yield: 60 pinwheels 1x

Description

This Italian Pinwheel recipe features a delicious combination of creamy, tangy, and savory flavors wrapped in soft flour tortillas. Perfect for parties and gatherings, these bite-sized pinwheels are made with a flavorful cream cheese mixture, provolone cheese, and salami or soppressata, then chilled and sliced for easy serving.

Ingredients

Scale

Cream Cheese Mixture

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • ½ cup red pepper spread (such as a sandwich spread)
  • ½ cup pepperoncini or banana peppers, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon coarse kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper

Fillings and Wrap

  • 16 slices provolone cheese, thinly sliced
  • 16 slices salami or soppressata
  • 8 large flour tortillas (10 or 12 inch)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cream Cheese Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine softened cream cheese, red pepper spread, chopped pepperoncini or banana peppers, dried Italian seasoning, coarse kosher salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and ground black pepper. Mash and stir together until all ingredients are well combined and smooth.
  2. Spread on Tortillas and Add Fillings: Lay out each of the 8 large flour tortillas on a flat surface. Spread a heaping ½ cup of the cream cheese mixture evenly over each tortilla, covering all the way to the edges. At one end of each tortilla, arrange two slices of provolone cheese and two slices of salami or soppressata.
  3. Roll and Chill: Carefully roll each tortilla tightly into a log shape starting from the filled end. Wrap each roll tightly in plastic wrap to hold its shape. Place the wrapped rolls in the refrigerator and chill for at least 1 hour or up to overnight to allow the flavors to meld and to firm up for slicing.
  4. Slice and Serve: Remove the chilled rolls from the refrigerator and unwrap. Using a serrated knife, cut each roll into 1-inch thick slices to create individual pinwheels. Arrange the pinwheels on a serving platter for presentation.
  5. Enjoy and Share Feedback: Serve the pinwheels as an appetizer or party snack. If you try this recipe, be sure to leave a comment or star rating to share your experience with others.

Notes

  • For best flavor, chill the pinwheels overnight to allow the ingredients to meld.
  • You can substitute the salami or soppressata with other deli meats like turkey or ham if preferred.
  • Feel free to use gluten-free tortillas if a gluten-free option is desired.
  • Use a serrated knife to slice the rolls cleanly without squishing them.
  • These pinwheels can be made ahead and stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days.
