  • Author: Lana
  • Total Time: 1 hour
  • Yield: 24 slices (2 loaves) 1x

Description

This One Rise Sandwich Bread recipe is a simple, quick, and delicious homemade bread made using instant yeast. Ready in just one hour with minimal ingredients and effort, it yields soft, golden loaves perfect for sandwiches or toast.

Ingredients

Scale

Wet Ingredients

  • 2 cups very warm water (tap water)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 packet rapid rise yeast (or 2 1/4 teaspoons)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • to cups all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt

Instructions

  1. Proof the yeast: Place warm water, yeast, and sugar in a large bowl. Stir gently and let the mixture stand for 5 minutes until it starts to form a creamy foam, indicating the yeast is active.
  2. Mix the dough: Add vegetable oil, half of the flour (about 2 1/4 cups), and salt to the yeast mixture. Begin mixing using a dough hook attachment or by hand.
  3. Knead the dough: Gradually add the remaining flour until the dough pulls away from the sides of the bowl. Knead the dough for 4-5 minutes with the dough hook or on a floured surface if mixing by hand, until smooth and elastic.
  4. First rise: Cover the bowl with a clean dish towel and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 20 minutes, or until it nearly doubles in size.
  5. Shape and prepare for baking: Divide the dough into two equal parts. Place each half into a greased loaf pan sprayed generously with non-stick spray.
  6. Bake the bread: Bake in a preheated 350°F (175°C) oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the tops are golden brown. To check doneness, tap the top of the loaf; it should sound hollow.
  7. Cool the loaves: Remove the loaves from the oven and let them cool in the pans for 5-10 minutes. Then turn them out onto a cooling rack to cool completely.
  8. Slice and store: Once cooled, slice the bread into 1/2 inch slices. Use immediately for sandwiches or toast. Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.

Notes

  • Store the bread in an airtight container or zipper bag at room temperature for up to 5 days to maintain freshness.
  • This bread freezes very well for up to 3 months; make sure to wrap it tightly in plastic wrap before freezing.
  • For best texture, slice only when the bread is completely cooled.
