Scale
Base
- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
- 3/4 cup butter
Filling & Topping
- 10 oz can sweetened condensed milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1 3/4 cups milk chocolate chips
- 1 1/3 cups toffee bits (or 2 finely chopped Heath bars)
Instructions
- Prepare Base: Cream together 3/4 cup butter and 3/4 cup packed brown sugar until smooth and fluffy. Gradually add 1 1/2 cups flour and mix until the dough is well blended and sticks together.
- Press Base into Pan: Press the dough evenly into the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking pan to form the crust.
- Bake Base: Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes or until the crust is a light golden brown. Remove from the oven and let it cool while you prepare the filling.
- Prepare Filling: In a small saucepan, combine 10 oz sweetened condensed milk and 2 tablespoons butter. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, for 5-10 minutes until the mixture thickens.
- Spread Filling: Evenly spread the thickened filling over the cooled base in the baking pan.
- Bake Filling: Return the pan to the oven and bake at 350°F for 12-15 minutes or until the filling turns golden.
- Add Chocolate Chips: Remove the pan from the oven and immediately sprinkle 1 3/4 cups milk chocolate chips evenly over the warm filling.
- Melt Chocolate: Return the pan to the oven for about 2 minutes or until the chocolate chips are shiny and soft. Remove from oven and spread the melted chocolate evenly over the filling.
- Add Toffee Bits: Sprinkle 1 1/3 cups toffee bits evenly on top, pressing them lightly into the warm chocolate to ensure they stick.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the bars to cool completely to room temperature before cutting into 24 pieces and serving.
Notes
- For extra crunch, use finely chopped Heath bars instead of toffee bits.
- Be sure to stir the condensed milk mixture constantly to avoid burning or sticking.
- Allow bars to cool fully before cutting to ensure clean slices.
- Store bars in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days.
- These bars can also be refrigerated but may harden; bring them to room temperature before serving.
